Yakuzen has an idea called tenjin goitsu, the unity of heaven and humanity. It teaches how much it matters to live in step with nature: the place, the season, the surroundings.

Summer vegetables tend to be ingredients that cool excess heat. When it is hot the body flushes with heat easily, so these are exactly the ingredients you need. That they grow well here, and that people here eat plenty of them, makes perfect sense.
