For anyone who thinks yakuzen looks difficult

Watching Shiawase wa Tabete Nete Mate, I keep noticing how much of what yakuzen values is right there in it.

In episode 7 there is a scene where Satoko, the lead, stops making the packed lunches she had been working so hard on and takes just rice balls instead. She tells a colleague that she is taking a break from cooking.

For me that was a very important scene.

Yakuzen is not only for a carefully tended life

The idea that yakuzen is for people with time to spare, who can live carefully.
That it does not suit busy people, that it looks like a faff, that it looks hard. A lot of people think that, I suspect.

But yakuzen is a way of eating that uses what ingredients do to settle the body, deliciously. That is all.
Use eating out, convenience stores and supermarket ingredients well, and you can bring it in however busy you are.
All you have to do is choose the things your body is glad of.

You can do yakuzen eating out or at a convenience store

In our corporate seminars, yakuzen you can do eating out or at a convenience store goes down very well indeed.
There is no rule that you have to cook it properly.

Like Satoko, bring it in when you feel like it, and take a break when you cannot.
Even only when you notice that things feel a bit unsteady is fine.
At that sort of looseness, yakuzen still does plenty of good.

Thin and long is enough

What got me thinking this way was a line from a friend who is a ballerina.
When I said I was thinking of taking up some exercise, she told me:

"Asako. Thin, and loooooong."

Rather than flaring up, going hard and quitting straight away, keep it flowing like river water, thin and long.
That is the picture. No strain, comfortable, at a pace that suits you.
I am rather fond of that line of hers.

I will keep yakuzen thin and long

I want to keep bringing yakuzen into my life thin and long, and enjoy the days as they come.
If that way of thinking makes sense to you, do give it a go yourself.

For anyone who thinks yakuzen looks difficult

For anyone who thinks yakuzen looks hard, or that there is no time for it, we run courses you can take up easily.
