What is the Yasai Yakuzen check?

A yakuzen self-check that tells you your constitution type

"I tire so easily." "I sleep badly and my skin is dry." "Stiff shoulders, period pain and a low mood that will not lift."
Does any of that sound familiar?

It may come down to your constitution leaning one way inside you.
Not enough to take to a doctor, but left alone it carries on.
The yakuzen constitution check is there to sit quietly alongside signals like these, in the grey area.

Chinese medicine holds that constitution lies underneath how you feel.
Which is exactly why knowing your own constitution is the first step in daily care and in settling how you eat

What is the Yasai Yakuzen check?

The Yasai Yakuzen check is a self-check, built on the wisdom of Chinese medicine, that works out which of these six constitution types you lean towards.

  • Qi deficiency (kikyo)
  • Blood deficiency (kekkyo)
  • Yin deficiency (inkyo)
  • Blood stasis (oketsu)
  • Qi depression (kiutsu)
  • Phlegm-damp (tanshitsu)

Answer a few questions and it tells you
the state and quality of your body, what tends to go off, and the ingredients and measures that suit you.

Your result is explained, enjoyably, alongside a cute vegetable character.
As well as hints on ingredients and lifestyle to suit your constitution, you can go deeper with the related videos.

The constitution types and what marks them out

Constitution typeWhat marks it outIf it were a vegetable...
Qi deficiency (kikyo)Tires easily, catches colds easily, low on driveA rather tired kabocha squash
Blood deficiency (kekkyo)Dizziness, poor sleep, pale complexion, nails that split easilyAn unsteady carrot
Yin deficiency (inkyo)Flushing, hot flushes, dry skin, trouble falling asleepA parched lily bulb
Blood stasis (oketsu)Stiff shoulders, period pain, dark spots, poor circulationA beetroot in the dark
Qi depression (kiutsu)Stress, unsteady emotions, keeps things bottled upA hard-trying onion
Phlegm-damp (tanshitsu)Swelling, a heavy body, sluggish metabolismA plump ear of sweetcorn

The detail on each constitution and the eating advice are on the result page.
Tap a constitution name and you can jump to its own page.

After the check: yakuzen care that starts from vegetables

Depending on your result, you get concrete Yasai Yakuzen advice like this:

  • Qi deficiency type: charge your energy at breakfast (kabocha squash, glutinous rice and the like)
  • Blood deficiency type: vegetables and fruit that nourish the blood (carrot, grapes, spinach and the like)
  • Yin deficiency type: moistening ingredients that replenish (lily bulb, egg, strawberry and the like)
  • Blood stasis type: warm vegetables that get the blood moving (eggplant, vinegar, pak choi and the like)
  • Qi depression type: aromatic ingredients and herbs that move qi (onion, citrus)
  • Phlegm-damp type vegetables that drain fluid, to clear things (sweetcorn, black soybeans and the like)

All of them are ingredients from your local supermarket.
Being able to start today is what is good about Yasai Yakuzen.

Knowing yourself is the first step to settling things

Managing how you feel and eating better both start from knowing your own body.
